New Convener for Forth Road Bridge

Published on 1 Jul 2009

Councillor Phil Wheeler of City of Edinburgh Council today took over as Convener of the Forth Estuary Transport Authority (FETA), the organisation responsible for operating and maintaining the Forth Road Bridge.

FETA is governed by a board of local councillors from Fife, City of Edinburgh, Perth & Kinross and West Lothian. The Chair alternates every two years between Fife and Edinburgh.

Councillor Tony Martin, FETA Convener for the past two years, will now become Vice-Convener.

Councillor Wheeler paid tribute to the work of his predecessor: “Tony has successfully steered FETA through a period of significant change, during which tolls were abolished and the organisation went through a major programme of restructuring and modernisation. Thanks in large part to the leadership provided by Tony working together with the Bridgemaster and his team, the organisation has come through these changes with its reputation enhanced.

“My aim is now to build on these achievements. The Forth Road Bridge is operated and maintained by an exceptionally skilled and dedicated workforce, and I’m looking forward to working with them to ensure a bright future for both the bridge and the organisation.”
