Cable Inspection Works: Expect Delays Saturday/Sunday Morning
11 June 2015
Motorists are warned to expect delays at the Forth Road Bridge on the mornings of Saturday 13 June and Sunday 14 June while preparatory work for an inspection of the main cable continues.
Traffic will be restricted to a single lane in both directions from 01:00 to 09:30 on Saturday morning and from 01:00 to 10:30 on Sunday morning. Queues are expected to build up after 08:30 on Saturday and 09:30 on Sunday but will gradually clear once restrictions are lifted.
Pedestrians and cyclists will be able to cross the bridge using the west footpath/cycleway.
These restrictions are necessary to allow preparatory work to be completed in advance of an inspection of the main cable. Steelwork will be erected near the top of the south tower so that an access platform can be hoisted into position. The inspection is being carried to investigate the cause of an increase in wire breaks detected by the bridge’s acoustic monitoring system.
The works are weather dependent - if high winds or other circumstances result in cancellation they will be rescheduled for the weekend of 27/28 June.
