Bridge Deck Concrete Repairs: Expect Delays 1 & 2 August A.M.
24 July 2015
Motorists are advised to expect delays at the Forth Road Bridge on the mornings of Saturday 1 August and Sunday 2 August while essential repairs are carried out to damaged concrete on the bridge.
Traffic will be restricted to a single lane each direction from 20:00 on Friday evening until 09:30 on Saturday morning and then from 20:00 on Saturday evening until 10:30 on Sunday morning. Queues are expected to build up after 08:30 on Saturday and 09:30 on Sunday but will gradually clear once restrictions are lifted.
The east footpath/cycleway will remain open to pedestrians and cyclists.
If poor weather or other circumstances result in cancellation of these works they will be rescheduled for the next available weekend.
Angus Bruce, Principal Engineering Manager with operating company Amey, said: “Last week we carried out an emergency repair to the surfacing on this damaged section of carriageway in order to make it safe and prevent damage to vehicles using the bridge.
“We now need to go back in and carry out a permanent repair to the concrete underneath, however this will take two full nights including the time it takes for new concrete to cure.
“By scheduling these works overnight we hope to minimise disruption to traffic using the bridge, however some delays are still likely first thing in the morning on both Saturday and Sunday. Our advice is to allow extra time for your journey if you need to travel at these times.”
